    Croce performs his typical polemical arguments but this book fills an important role in humanizing a literary figure who has become too much of a literary deity

    Benedetto Croce was a major prolific Italian philosopher of the first half of the 20th century and a representative of idealism He was an authority in aesthetics of which this book on Dante's poetry is an example I gave it 4 stars only because I haven't read it yet

Italian philosopher and politician He wrote numerous topics including philosophy of history and aesthetics Raised in a very strict Catholic family Around the age of 18 he turned away from Catholicism and became an atheist remaining so for the rest of his life After an earthuake in 1883 his parents and only sister were all killed while he was buried for a very long time and barely survived
