Crossed Out DCI Bennett Book 6 Kindle Ù Crossed Out

Crossed Out DCI Bennett Book 6 I love the Cyril Bennett series by Malcolm Hollingdrake and was looking forward to reading this new addition to the series and I wasn’t disappointedSmall numbered wooden crosses are turning up all over the area with a small bag of red hair attached what do they mean When bodies start turning up with red hair Cyril and his team start hunting for cluesThere is a new addition to the team April who is immediately a significant addition when it becomes clear her biblical knowledge is going to be very useful in solving the case I love the way April slots in to the team or less seamlessly given the problems the team are having recovering from the loss of Liz The team members continue to develop and I love the way they all fit together perfectly no flies in the ointment in this team Cyril has had big problems coming to terms with the death of Liz and Julie is his rock I love how the relationship is working out and the support she gives to Cyril We learn a little about his past in this book which goes to make him human He is a complex character but very humanThe story is fast paced as the team search for clues and start to put the pieces together but are there too many pieces just what is the link to the victims and what has the Pyramid grave got to do with it As the story hots up we join the team in the hunt for clues to who is behind all the goings on There is a real curve ball hidden in the story are the team looking in the wrong direction Will they work it out before people dieAnother excellent book by the talented Malcolm Hollingdrake I am looking forward to in this series Thank you to Bloodhound Books for the advance copy Now it’s been a while since I started and finished a book within the same day but Crossed Out had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down which is how I finished this gripping story within a day Crossed Out had me intrigued from the prologue and it was great to be back in DCI Bennett’s world once I must mention that this is book six in the DCI Bennett series and it does make references to the previous books in the series so they are best read in order The story is written well thrilling and fast paced You really won’t want to put it down Crossed Out is a brilliant cleverly written story with links to religion Christianity in this complicated mysterious case But not too much for it to become boring for the reader infact I learnt uiet a lot from reading this story about Christianity myself which is always a bonus This could be one of Malcolm’s best stories in the series yet Very impressed This is one of those stories that will make you go “Ah That’s why it’s called that” Outstanding and a well deserved five stars from me I look forward to by DCI Bennett and his team This series really does just get better and better Highly recommend Crossed Out also made it into my top twenty books of 2017 Brilliant  Crossed Out is a riveting addition to the DCI Bennett series Although 6th in the series this can easily be read as a stand aloneWhen a house crumples into a sinkhole Bennett and his team are called out to investigate when a body is found They also find a number of old crosses each one numberedDC April Richmond is introduced as a new team member and impresses them all with her knowledge of all things biblical Due to her assistance the team makes a remarkable discoveryBennett and the team find themselves wondering if the killer is exacting revenge or punishment and whatever the answer they soon realize the clock is tickingVery suspenseful this one kept me riveted to the pages until the very last sentence on the very last page Also whetted my appetite to go back to the beginning of this series for a marathon reading The characters are interesting and I would like to know a whole lot of DCI Bennett He seems to be a very private man and I would love to see where he came from to get where he is now The other characters are credible The plot has been well thought out and written with a firm hand Starting with a missing person an acid attack dead bodies well put your seat belt on when reading this oneMany thanks to the author Bloodhound Books Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime thriller Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own Crossed Out is the sixth book in the gripping DCI Cyril Bennett crime series I think it would be beneficial to have at least read the last two books in the series though the author gives just enough for anyone wanting to jump straight in but as it’s a fabulous series I do recommend reading them allWhen I first met Cyril the author didn’t give to much away about who he is or his past As the books have gone along the author kind of drip feeds us little bits so we are still left knowing that we like him as a character but left intrigued to know Well Crossed Out we finally get to know a lot about him and it didn’t disappointI really enjoyed the two threads that run throughout this book In one hand we have someone going around killing people in some horrific ways which really did horrify yet thrill me as well as finding out a lot about Cyril’s past which did make for some emotional reading I have to say It made it feel that bit personal and i think fans of the series are without a doubt going to love this bookCrossed Out is a read that will have you gripped whilst racing through the pages Set at a steady pace things certainly hot up towards the end and left me feeling uite breathless Cyril’s past is a welcome break in the story from the brutality of the murders which made it perfectly balanced A great read and would even go as far as to say that Crossed Out is my new favourite in the series The that you read a series and the you expect of the author to come up with something that will welcome you like an old friend and Malcolm Hollingdrake does just that As each book comes along this is book six I have begun to recognise the little traits that make all of the characters individual and that is how it is with DCI Cyril Bennett and DS David Owen I feel that I know a little how their minds work as a team and on their own but we all have secrets and pasts as each new book comes along it is as if a trust builds up between the characters and readers and little is sharedThe story plummets straight into the bowels of the earth as a sinkhole has partly devoured a house leaving the occupants on the way to hospital and the search revealing a dead body that has been there for some time While Bennett and Owen are looking into who the mysterious person can be a number of remembrance crosses are turning up with dyed real hair attached in plastic bags and each with an individual number A further search reveals a murdered person not far from each onePreviously in an earlier book the death of a colleague hit the team really hard but now is the right time to introduce a very valuable new comer DC April Richmond Well I loved this lady straight away and what an asset she is She brings with her a wealth of knowledge that cements her to this incredible team as if she had been with them yearsThis is again a top class read and such a busy book that I just couldn’t being myself to put down at a spot that I could stop A cracking team a brilliant story line I just love how Malcolm Hollingdrake pays attention to the smallest detail to make the story as close to real life as possible There is always excellent research evident in his books Highly recommended DCI Cyril Bennett and DS David Owen are back for another murder mystery in Crossed Out – there are crosses found and scarlet hair – messages to the world but from whom When the first murdered body is found the team know they will have their hands full to find the killer| Introduction |On the book cover of Crossed Out it says”Red Dead Corrected” and in fact this is what the sixth thriller in the DCI Bennett series is all about Just that Need to knowLet me tell you about the first of April when the first signs of a dark and disturbed mind are presented to us There is talk of an offering of a cross and a buried package Hair to be dyed to a scarlet red colour Then there is Angie Rose sitting on a bench on The Stray cutting herself And this is only the beginning of yet another rainy day in Harrogate| Storyline |With a growing feeling of suspense we watch someone meticulously plan to plant wooden crosses What is the meaning of it Meanwhile DS David Owen fills yet another mug of tea for himself and of course spills it on DCI Cyril Bennett’s desk Nothing changes you might think But you are wrong Owen is definitely growing in his role as Bennett’s right hand and he appears confident Which is good because this case will be hard to crack and Owen will need all his wits about him For now they have to visit a rather unusual scene a house collapsed into the earth revealing a hidden body presumably murdered in the process The owners are an old couple too shaken to form any coherent sentences let alone be uestioned by the police All that is left for the police is to secure the building and get in touch with the daughter of the couple Somehow that offers rather remarkable and shocking insights into the old couple’s livesAnother member of Bennett’s team DC Shakti Misra discovers after eighteen months a possible lead on a since then missing girl Tracy Phillips It is a rather mysterious message deliberately left on Montpellier Hill saying “She’s not gone anywhere She’s just stopped walking these streets a shadow of her former self” Did concerned citizen Graham Baker do well to bring it in or is it just a hoax The discovery of another wooden cross attached to a bag with red hair sets off alarm bells it is the fourth one and each cross appears to have a number on it So many uestions for Bennett and his team to answer and to get to the bottom of A good thing DC April Richmond is seconded to the team because soon she proves her worth How to link the ostensibly loose events Are they even connected To complicate matters a vicious attack takes place And that at a time where Bennett receives a message from the past – a past he is reluctant to confront| My Thoughts |I love Crossed Out To me the DCI Bennett books just get better – in Crossed Out the plot is intricate and you can hardly keep up with all the events happening – are they connected and if so how The various plotlines are well crafted and draw you right in one of the reasons this excellently written thriller with its beautiful descriptive sentences is captivating and intriguing What also becomes clear is how well the team works together – I love the introduction of DC April Richmond her presence adds to the team’s dynamic making it complete again Somehow this also shows off Owen’s character he feels rounded and grown in confidence both personally and as a DS now in all aspects truly Cyril Bennett’s right hand In Only the Dead Owen headed towards this role but somewhere along the way he seemed a bit insecure – from Game Point on however he definitely is the experienced DS able to lead the team under DCI Bennett of courseSeeing Owen spill the tea made me smile and it felt like reconnecting with old friends; their special relationship based on trust affection and respect is at the heart of the DCI Bennett series and you just feel the love of the author for his protagonists in the way he writes about them Crossed Out had me stuck to the pages – unable to close the book until I had reached the last page – the various plotlines kept spinning in my head as I tried to make sense of it all and figure out how one would relate to the other As it turns out no sorry I will not disclose it One last thing though I am delighted with the insights this book provides us with – into Cyril Bennett’s background and Again not telling You will have to read Crossed Out for yourself and I am sure you will love it as much as I doEvery book in the exciting DCI Bennett series published by Bloodhound Books comes highly recommended and can be read as a stand alone Although for Crossed Out having read the previous books is not a necessity I still strongly recommend reading them in order because you would miss out on so much The development of characters the relationships Starting with the first book ‘Only the Dead’ and moving on from there will definitely be worth your while You are hooked before you know itRead the review on my website When a book starts with missing persons acid attacks drugs and bodies you know you’re in for a tangled tale Cyril his team augmented this time by a new girl April have their work cut out April as Cyril advises occasionally goes with her gut He is happy to follow it His own past is further explored and his relationship with Dr Pritchett deepens Altogether there’s a huge lot going on in hereI really enjoyed this story When you think you know what’s going on you’re thrown a curve ball The whole thing was tied together with biblical uotes as there’s a character who has taken on the task of correcting sinners This was a complex piece of story telling with a lot of characters but it all worked for me A very enjoyable read Looking for an unmissable crime thriller from a best selling authorDCI Bennett and his team are back and called to a house in Ripon that has collapsed into a sinkhole where a body is discoveredSoon old weathered Remembrance Crosses are found dug up Each one numberedDC April Richmond is assigned to help the team due to her impressive biblical knowledge and soon makes a startling discoveryMeanwhile Gideon Fletcher is walking around the streets of Harrogate distributing religious texts Is there a link between Gideon and the crosses Do the crosses have anything to do with the body in the houseBennett and the team find themselves wondering if the killer is exacting revenge or punishment and whatever the answer they soon realise the clock is tickingCrossed Out is an intricate and gripping crime thriller from the best selling DCI Bennett Series It can easily be read as a stand alone novel and will appeal to fans of authors like Joy Ellis Faith Martin LJ Ross Angela MarsonsAlso available in the DCI Bennett SeriesOnly The DeadHell's GateFlesh EvidenceGame PointDying Art I thoroughly enjoyed this latest instalment of the Cyril Bennett series the sixth one I have read all of them and it is always nice to read a series in order but this book can easily be read as a standalone too if need be This is a book with uite a complex plot and it sees Cyril and Owen trying to figure out the meaning of the crosses which keep on turning up on their patch as well as the dead bodies There is a connection but they are not sure what it is Their new colleague April Richmond has some in depth knowledge to share that Owen in particular really appreciates She is a welcome addition to the team and I am enjoying getting to know her as well as re acuainting myself with the main characters too There is also a reveal about Cyril's past which is intriguing and which explains a few things about why he is who he isI always love reading the books in this series because as well as being good police procedurals the personalities and relationships of the characters really come into play each time When I pick one up I feel like I am spending time with good friends and that aspect of things adds to my enjoyment of the bookA well deserved 5 stars for me It was brilliant to find that the author was giving us an insight into Cyril and his past and it endeared him to me even He is a very straight no nonsense character but he also has a soft side and from the descriptions of his early life you can begin to understand why Owen still has a major part to play in the investigations and a new character April has been introduced I love Harrogate and the surrounding area as the setting for the books which are well written with much thought going into the plots This is another crime thriller from Malcolm Hollingdrake that I can highly recommend
