This is a less gruesome version of a well known traditional fairy tale It's notable for Tony Ross's illustrations where he's used graphite pencil outlines instead of his usual ink outline under his hallmark watercolour and achieved an unusual effect

Thank goodness for silly Tony Ross does it so well Loads of fun leaving a tiny but clear impression that common sense and logic are fine but letting go of sensible now and then is liberating and good for you too The lengthy narrative and zany drawings will hold the attention spans of the younger and higher primary readers

I had this book as a child It has comical writing my favourite being 'hey ancient baggage' when George sees an old lady George might be sensible but he appears to be missing his manners

Usually I am a fan of Tony Ross but this book did not hit the mark for me
